Continuing with this idea of looking at the smaller scale when it comes to gender equity, Rayat talks about her just going to work with pride in who she is and the way she challenges gender inequality. She realizes that as a woman of color, there will always be this stigma around the kind of work she does, but she also knows that she deserves to be where she is because of the work she has put in. In this way, she can be a kind role model for others like her, an example that what other people think of identity shouldn’t stop you from doing what you want.

And going back to the barriers she identified, talking about the issues surrounding gender inequality and being willing to put in the effort to get others to listen is a big thing that many don’t consider. You cannot change people’s minds if they don’t even realize there is something wrong with their mindset in the first place. So, combating both the social and cultural stigma that exists, especially in South Asian communities, is a way to start/reinvigorate the feminist movement that Rayat tries her best to participate in.
