Looking to the Future

Where we go from Here

Rayat definitely does think that the feminist movement has grown stagnant in recent years. She points to how businesses think that hiring a few women is a way to show that they are gender equal but won’t do anything to combat structural issues put into place. And how those women are often not even listened to once they are hired, going back to her own experiences of working in a university. And I personally think this goes back to an idea pointed out in the last couple of weeks in this class of how there is no single, unifying goal for the current ‘wave’ of feminism as there was for the first and second wave. There are so many different issues that we must tackle but little to no headway is being made because not enough effort is being put into any of them. And another part of this is that unlike in years past, people are focusing more on those structures put into place that help drive inequality, which definitely makes it much more difficult to solve or get rid of them.
